Plescostomus they sort of look like catfish. Algae eaters are a completely different kind of fish. Both will clean your tank but the plescotomus are way cooler and they get big. If you get one watch out though I had several that would get between my tank wall and my heater and burn holes in their backs. Some people call them pleccos.

they are algae eaters. You have to consider whether or not you really need them or not. The past algae eaters I've had kept on nipping on other fish. Everytime you add another fish in your tank that means more weight it puts on your biological filter. That means the good bacteria can't decompose the waste produced from your fish. In turn, the algae eater can cause more mess than it cleans. You might be better of cleaning the algae yourself. If you are still going to buy one, you should buy the plecos and do not buy the chinese algae eaters(the skiny, green ones) because they nip on your fish.

Either they are chinese algae eaters, corydoras catfish, or plecostomus. If you want to get one, the chinese algae eater would be good because they only grow up to be like 7" or so and I have some so they are typically going to be small for a bit so that's good.

Generically, they are algae eaters!
For a planted aquarium, go for a chinese algae eater. They stay reletively small. Other plecos may reach 8-12 inches.

Hope this helps
