This is exactly one of the paradoxes that we face concerning time travel. Refer to the link below will give you more examples. Though it would be nice to use time travel in space, it's probably more practical to travel through worm-holes.

The fact that your grandfather and yourself are alive (or in his case, lived to make one of your parents) is prima facie evidence that no one is going to kill him, least of all yourself.

Your trip back in time is the starting point. Every thing is the same until you kill him. Now you start to fade away .

Basically, time travel is indeed theoretically possible... so one of the obvious answers is that there are infinite universes...

god point then you wonldn't be around to kill him, but then he wouldnt be dead so you would be around, but then he would have been killed by you, so then you would exist.....

it becomes a never ending cycle, so nothing would really change
