I am now 11 weeks pregnant, due to cramps and spotting I had a scan just over a week ago which confirmed that I was 9 weeks and 4 days pregnant. the reason I am so puzzled is because My period was due 24/12/06 but according to the scan I concieved 25 or 26/12/06, I actually had a period 27/12/06 which appeared to be normal. My period before that was 26/11/06 I have a normal 28 day cycle, so I should of ovulated around 10/12/06. This is why I am so confused, is it possible that the measurements for fetus are small for dates or could I have ovulated when supposed to be on a period? i had unprotected sex 26/12/06 and 19/11/06. Please help to shed some light on my confusing situation!

Please note I did not have sex on or around the dates that could i of possibly ovulated based on an average 28 day cycle and ovulating occurring 14 days later. I have given dates when I had unprotected sex.

you can get pregnant all month round wether being on ur period, just had it, or its coming in a week, some times of the month are just more fertile than others!! some people also have periods throughout the whole pregnancy! everyones different its just wierd isnt it lol!!! anyway, congratulations!!!!!

The statement that you ovulate 2 weeks into your cycle if you have a 28 day cycle is based on an average. Some women ovulate earlier, some later. With some women the time they ovlate can vary vastly from month to month even though their period remains the same.

Sperm can survive up to five to seven days in ideal conditions inside you (right pH etc...) so if you had unprotected sex on 26/12 and 19/11 you could have ovulated up to around 31/12 or 24/11.

In addition, the number of weeks pregnant is based on ovulating 2 weeks into a 28 day cycle and is taken from the date of your last period. ie: when you ovulate (if 2 weeks into cycle) you are actually already 2 weeks pregnant!

hiya
hospitals actually work a pregnancy out to be 40 weeks long. my mother in law was always telling me that when she was expecting it was only 37 weeks, so things have really changed
but anyway, they work it out to be 40 weeks and start counting this from the first day of your last period. if you want to work out the date you concieved the best thing to do is work out your normal menstrual cycle length (average 28 days) then half it. count this many days from the date of 1st day of last period and that should give you an estimate.
the scans are only estimates, they do not tell the exact dates, etc. the dates they have are made from certain measurements they take off the baby's legs, etc.

Drs use the day of the last period and work the dates from then - so you have two weeks extra added on to the amount of weeks that you are .
They are only a rough guide as they can not be sure as to the exact date of conception babys can be smaller or larger than there supposed gestation depending on many factors.
the baby will be born when he or she is ready so try not to worry.
My first baby was small for his dates and he is now taller than me and is fit and healthy.
Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy

Women ovulate at different times , it doesnt matter how short or long your cycle is , you can ovulate when you get your period , my friend got pregnant the day after her period when she wasnt supposed to be fertile so everyones different you just can never tell.

This does sound confussing but when you go for a scan they take messerments and they know from that how old the baby is. On the website i have pasted for you, you can see your baby grow and how your body changes each week its really good.
Good luck

When is your due date?

If you go by the period you had in December then you would have conceived on Wednesday, January 10, 2007
If you were to go by your period in november then you would have conceived on Sunday, December 10, 2006
