We have been friends for 9 yrs. of which she is involved with a married man who abandoned his wife and child. He doesn't love my friend. She always comes to me complaining that she needs money. She manipulates people with her sad stories so they feel sorry and give her or lend her money. I don't care because if she wasn't buying this man's companionship, she would live very well with her teacher's salary. She has low self esteem and believes if she does not provide for the jerk, then he would leave her for another woman. She has a teenage daughter whom her father and grandmother care for. The jerk doesn't let my friend have anyone visit her in the apartment she pays for.
My friend is upset that I made an observation that she is wrong and her lender is right for getting into her business. The lender is a relative who always bail her out, but who got tired of her asking for money to support the voluntarily unemployed man. She ruined her relative's credit. -

Sounds like she's just digging her self deeper into this hole she's in ... tell her exactly what you think ... and let her know that even though you care about her you can't sit around while she continues to hurt herself, and those close to her by chasing after this man, she's neglecting her responsibilities and acting childish, you don't need that in your life, but it does sound like she needs a good friend in her life, or she will when she finally realizes that he's not worth it.

Friendship isn't always easily described. The Eskimos, they say, have a hundred different words for snow. Unfortunately, the English language isn't quite as innovative, though it has vast opportunities to differentiate meaning. Certainly, Love is one of those opportunities. And so, too, is Friendship.

Instead of different words, however, we're stuck with simple adjectives. Close friend. Best friend. Childhood friend. Intimate friend. Trusted friend. Beloved friend. But whether you use adjectives or different words, few could deny the nearly infinite meaning in such a simple word.

Friends are special people. We can't pick our family, and we're sorely limited in the number of them at any rate. Society and mores (and often our own conscience) dictate we select a single mate. But our friends can be as diverse and infinite as the adjectives we choose. Our friends, in a very real sense, reflect the choices we make in life

She is going to need some to be there with her when she finely see her mistake. Put a little distortions between you and her then see that jerk is nothing but employ jerk.

It seems your friend's situation and lifestyle are causing you quite a lot of stress.

You have the right to choose your own associations.

You don't have to "dump" her, just tell her the truth about your reasons to discontinue your friendship. sometimes we have to sever relationships.

I've had to cut ties from "friends" that have too many problems due to their own behavior which they wouldn't change. Too much drama for me. I'm better off, believe me.

First I would go to her and tell her what you think and that she shouldn't be dating him since he gives her no freedom. If she gets mad tell her that you can't be friends with someone who can't make the right decision.
