My daughter just turned 10 and she constantlly lies to me. I cant take it anymore....she nows the rule in the house, "if you tell the truth you wont be in trouble, but if you lie your grounded". She has lied to me for as long as I can remember. I have punished her by taking her things away(no TV no computer, friends, phone, radio) and I have talked to her about how litttle lies turn to big lies and how its just wrong. is there any advice you can give me to help me out...thanks in advance

Seek out therapy for her...
There has to be a reason for her to be lying...

I have so much to say I don't know where to start. I know that some children are compulsive liars.(It is a mental illness) They really believe they are protecting them self by doing so. It gets to the point where they can not tell the difference between truth and lies. She needs counseling and right away. My friends child (calls me mom) is now doing 13 month in jail because of the lies she told. Do not lie to her that makes you just as bad. Another Thing I just thought of take everything away and the deal will be every time she tells the truth and you can prove it she gets something back. If she has a phone that goes to you also. Get her help!

This may sound like a silly idea, but she is obviously a habitual liar who gets a charge out of it. Why don't you tell her she can have 1 lie a day for free. She has to choose when to use it. Then, whenever she says something, challenge her. "Is that true, because you only get one lie today and I would hate for you to waste it on something so silly." Give her the opportunity to self correct without punishment. Pre-set a punishment that she agrees on if she goes over one lie. I agree that a distasteful physical effort is probably preferable to removal of privileges.

I think that something like this might get her out of the habit of lying. This would be similar to a "stop smoking" program a friend wrote. Give yourself permission to do the bad thing only a limited number of times, and then really and truly consider whether you want to use up your "allowance" in that moment. For any day that you know that she doesn't use her allowance, agree on steps to a special treat.

Pretty soon you have learned good habits in place of bad ones.

If your daughter constantly lies, she has something bigger she is hiding. Have more one-on-one time with her, ask her if she is bothered. If she feels close to yo u, and feels like she won't get into trouble for telling the truth (for instance, if she admits to breaking a vase, and you get mad at her, she will think that if she tells the truth, she will get in trouble). Still, no matter how bad a thing she did, congradulate her for telling the truth. Like, say "I was going to ground you for a week,, but, because you told the truth, I will only make you do an extra chore for a week."

Sounds like she was not deprived of the TV , computer etc long enough.
Each time it happened , the time should lengthen.
Did you cave and relent after a few days ?
Many kids with bad behaviors learned it was OK because the parents were slack about sticking to the consequences.
How long did she go without the "toys" ?

I would recmend making her clean the house or somethink fisical. I would also talk to her about how it going to hurt when she starts lieing to friends. It also depends apond the lie. Maybe you should make an reward for telling the truth like if she broke ur lipstick and told you that she would not get in trouble or as much. Good Luck

in the beginning, the minute you are able to talk coherently with a baby actual punishment will now no longer artwork and deliver the incorrect message. constantly attempt to speak. I consider the reason and consequence besides the certainty that i'm no longer lots into monitoring. additionally, lead by making use of occasion. permit her understand which you will in no way mislead her and do by no skill, whether the question is out of line, attempt and locate an answer that isn't "you're too youthful" or "you will no longer understand". i might additionally talk to the mummy, sounds like she desires a certainty examine or face loosing custody. base line, permit her understand how lots you like her and how lots it hurts you while she lies. Make it approximately love. people who love one yet another shouldn't in any respect mislead one yet another.

Lie Back.

Even the silliest of things, lie to her about anything.

She will soon realise that lying isn't fun or clever and the truth should be told all the time.

She has to understand the frustration caused by lying. Good luck xx
