The law states: Anybody who does not know how to spell DIGITAL COPYRIGHT shall receive the death penalty by lethal injection.
now that i think about it that kind of applies to you.

Materials that are copyright protected cannot be copied, absent a license or very specific protections. That applies whether the material is digital or any other format.

There is also the DMCA -- Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Among other things, that makes it illegal to bypass copy protections. So, for example, copying a music CD for personal use (say, to an MP3 player) is allowed.

But copying a DVD to your computer to play on the computer is not allowed. Not because it's a copyright violation. But because you have to bypass the copy protection on the DVD, which is a violation of the DMCA.
