My Peugeot 406 HDi has developed a problem with the central locking. It seems to be on the drivers side, when I push the remote button or twist the key the drivers door does not lock but the central locking seems to activate all other doors but the car does not lock and the switches go back and the car reamins unlocked. I have tried to replace the drivers door activator but to no joy. I wonder if its a relay or a fuse or perhaps a wiring fault. Can anyone help?

I have the same problem on my 405! Except it is the rear passenger door, driver's side.
I was able to PROVE that it is a problem of NO electricity getting to the "activator" when the driver's door key is turned.
I proved it with a small voltmeter.

You have already replaced the suspected activator, and it STILL didn't work. This means that both old and new activators are good, but 12 volts is not reaching it.
A good proof for you would be to run a wire (a temporary wire) from another door's activator directly to the driver's door. When 3 doors work, then the fourth will work off the other good door.

THEN trace the problem wire back to the fuse, or broken wire along its length. (I doubt it is a fuse or relay, then none of them would work).
Don't overlook the problems that are caused by a wet floor/carpet, wet boot, wet inside door panel!
A very last resort would be to run a 10 foot wire from one door activator... under the dash / carpet... to the driver's door. Taking both doors open and threading the wire around.

I will probably do the same. good luck, sir.

There used to be a "reset" button for central locking systems, try to find it (probably in the fuses box or below the steering wheel) and reset your system.
