At the end of June we will drive from Chicago to Orlando and want to stop for one night along the way. Any good ideas - we have an eight year old son and 3 year old daughter.
Thanks!

Yeah, Nashville. Take your kids to the Adventure Science Center. Educational and fun.

That's going to be a rough drive with two small ones. If you've driven this far before and had no problems, go for it. Other wise you would be better off stopping two nights. Northern Tennessee first night and South of Atlanta the second night. See a few sights along the way.

Clarksville, TN would be a good stop. The motels won't be full as the 101st is in Iraq.

Chattanoga would be better. That would leave a shorter drive in to Orlando.

Park the car in one place. Go check out the Chicago Transit Authority website and try to familiarize yourself with the basic CTA train routes and perhaps the bus routes in the area where you will be staying. Find out about the different bus pass options. You can buy passes that are good for several days, special tourist pass options that also get you into the museums, etc. But set the car aside. Despite it's problems, Chicago public transportation system is pretty good and go to all parts of the city pretty easily. And it's relatively cheap too: $2 a ride. Besides, gas prices in Chicago are the highest in the nation right now. You don't want to waste that precious petrol driving in circles looking for a parking spot. Also, you can find cheap parking if you don't mind traveling a bit to park your car. Some condo buildings in the West Loop offer indoor parking for non-residents for about $10 a day. There are a few places near Lake street and Canal, for instance.

Chattanooga would probably be the best. When we drive from Ohio to Orlando, we usually stop in this same area. Gives the kids a break.

A few more tips for traveling a long distance with children (if you haven't before)....
Leave really early, that way they are still sleepy and will likely fall back to sleep and not realize how long they have been stuck in a vehicle.
Take a TV/DVD player to keep them occupied.
Take a small cooler with drinks and snacks.
Books and games, CD Player (if they like music)
I give mine a throw away camera (even my daughter, who is 5) to take pictures...they love that!
Play the cloud game with them (see if you can spot shapes or animals in the clouds).
Have sing alongs.... If your headed to Disney sing about Mickey or take CD's of Disney music.....it keeps them excited about it even though you seem like your driving forever.

Chattanooga is the best place to stop. My family lives in Chicago and have made the trip multiple times staying in a lot of different places. We have found out, in our opinoin, Chattanooga, by far, is the best place to stop. First, it is directly in the middle...it divides your trip in half. Also, it is right in the heart of the Smokey Mountains, and it divides the mountains in half so you are not worry about them all in one day. Our 5 year old gets motion sickness, so it helps to keep her from getting sick in the car.

Chattanooga TN is the best spot to stop. Your kids will love the mountain areas if they have never seen them. Hope you have fun in DW we are going in May.
