I have watched both movies but im not sure on some of the points that i need to make in my essay.

I had to do this same assignment back in high school, some time back, and the most important thing I focused on was the use of "sword" on the gun, and that although the setting changed the basic story line and dialog didn't. I got an A on the paper! Those are perhaps the most important comparisons to be made. I included some useful websites in the " know your source" section

The 1968 version is very faithful to Shakespeare; more so than any film version before or since. It was controversial when first released because Romeo is shown naked.

The 1996 version is set in a modern setting.

try watching them...I havent seen the first version, but don't they have swords and in the 1996 version they say swords but have guns?
