I'm planning on auditioning for a local production of "Fiddler on the Roof, Jr." in a couple months. I'm 14 (but I will be 15 at the time of the audition), mezzo-soprano, and will most likely be auditioning for either Golde or Tzeitel (unless they decided to take it up to 18, in which I'll go for Tzeitel or Hodel). Does anyone have a good suggestion for a song to use for my audition? I'm needing a musical theatre song that isn't from the show.

Also, anyone who's been in the show before, what songs and scenes were you asked to use for cold reading?

If I audition for Golde I'm thinking about using "Days of Plenty" from "Little Women". Any opinions on that choice would also be appreciated.

Not much time left but I found out that the age range is actually 8 to 20, so I'll probably go for Hodel or Chava.

Smart choice by not going with a song from the show! Most of the songs for the women in Fiddler are dramatic so it would probably be best to go with that route. Here are some suggestions:
Avenue Q: "There's A Fine, Fine Line" (don't worry it's one of the clean songs!)
Jekyll and Hyde The Musical: "No One Knows Who I Am", "Sympathy, Tenderness", "Someone Like You", "Once Upon A Dream", "In His Eyes", "A New Life"
Les Miserables: "I Dreamed a Dream", "On My Own"
Oliver!:"As Long As He Needs Me"
The Music Man: "Goodnight, My Someone"
The King and I:"Hello, Young Lovers"
Jesus Christ Superstar:"I Don't Know How To Love Him"
Carousel: "If I Loved You" "You'll Never Walk Alone"
Finian's Rainbow: "Look To The Rainbow"
A Chorus Line:"What I Did For Love"

Break a leg on your audition!

There is a book called the "16 Bar Theatre Audtion Book" There are well known songs in there but you have to get the Belter(mezzo-soprano) version.
Here are some of the songs:

~Reflection (Mulan)
~On My Own (Les Mis)
~As Long as He Needs Me (Oliver!)
~All That Jazz (Chicago)
~A Change in Me (Beauty and The Beast) <----- Great choice if you can really belt
~I Enjoy Being a Girl (Flower Drum Song)
~N.Y.C. (Annie)

Hope this helps

Best of Luck
