It depends what the material is made of. If it is leather, I would use a plain leather cleaner. If not, go to a Coach store or other high-end department store that carries coach and ask them.

Is it leather or fabric? The Coach stores sell leather cleaner and protectant, and if it's your fabric that's gotten funky I would ask the Coach store what they recommend. I use the coach leather cleaner and protectant and my bags that have fabric haven't gotten icky yet.
You should also be aware that as a last resort you can mail your baby back to Coach and see if they can revive it. I wouldn't do it yourself unless you know what you are doing. No sense in ruining a very expensive bag.
I have a gorgeous Dior that needs cleaning and am scared to death it'll be ruined. I need to contact eluxury.com and ask them what to do.
Best of luck to you.

You can buy a leather cleaner called Saddle Soap at WalMart or Target. You use a damp cloth and the saddle soap to clean your leather. I've been using it for about 20 years! I use it now to clean our leather ottoman. It leaves the leather clean and not dry.

Use jergens hand lotion for leather and literally can put a high quality material purse in the wash. My Mom puts hers in the dish washer because it doesn't get tumbled around!

As long as your Coach bag is authentic, it came with a lifetime warranty...You can bring your bag back to the store, and they will have it steamed, or if they cannot help, I have had an associate give me advice on how to clean it...

you could probably go to a depatment store and ask them how to clean it.
or it might say on the coach website
or you could take it to a dry cleaner
