i live on long island, NY and i constantly see commercials for places like Dairy Queen and Sonic, meanwhile, there are none of those fast food chains in sight! why do they make me crave their shakes if i can't even go out and buy one? why do they air their commercials here if their restaurants aren't here?

Network affiliates cover substantial territory, so odds are that those restaurants do exist somewhere in the area of coverage, even if you don't see them around your area. My cable system, for instances, carries the NBC, CBS, etc affiliates from Columbus, Ohio, and from Charleston, WV. I live nowhere near those places, and yeah, they had me craving baby back ribs for a long time.

In nationwide promotion campaigns the networks can make the organization promotion purchase up spots on interior sight networks to help the smaller television stations herald funds. regardless of the truth that in the journey that they do no longer have shops or products in that distinct region. because you do not have any Sonic, i'm guessing you're in a rather small market? So the money helps grant promotion income for the little interior sight stations. if you're in D.C. then that of route isn't the problem.. humm, perhaps they are planning on starting shops in D.C. and favor to boost some hype.

Because local cable companies by feeds from huge networks like fox, NBC.etc.. And those commercials air where ever the feed is aired. I live in Canada and get commercials for every American restaurant because you guys have all the major networks.

Duh......If you are watching cable or satellite tv, the advertisers don't really care which market you are in...however, I'm sure that there are many people who are near those places. Try watching your local stations to see ads for places near you.
