He has set the precedent. All Presidents will now be overly secretive, use the freedom restricting laws, use torture, never give evidence on oath.... the list is endless.

This is a good question. It's a lot easier to lose freedoms than to get them back, and we've certainly lost some freedoms during Bush's terms in office. Congress has done a lot to expose some of the excesses and incompetence of the Bush administration, so I think there's hope that the office of the president will lose some of the power it has usurped.

First we all need to come to agreement on a destination or point in time to recover to.

If you are referring to rolling back the laws that allow intrusion into our lives, I'd say that's doable but it's going to take effort from the city government up through the states and finally Congress.

We all need to get involved in the process. And remember, it wasn't just the Republicans or just the Democrats that are the cause of all this.

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

In our current society I think that translates to Get Off Your Duff and VOTE.

I'm afraid the damage goes further. The next president not only has to deal with what you stated, but they will not be able to undo the damage quickly enough. People are fickle. They expect instant results. When that doesn't happen, someone new, most likely another Republican will get into office and further the damage created by Bush in the first place.

Hmm, so every other president was:
completely open and honest about everything?
Never used laws that restricted freedom (like the draft)?
Never used tortures?
Never gave evidence under oath?

It'll take about 25 years to recover from the moron Bush, and his pack of corrupt cronies.

Rumsfeld-out. Cheney -in hiding. Libby- a liar. Gonzales - incompetent and crooked.

This gang should all do time behind bars.
