(i.e. shootout goals don't count in the stats for a player, but are they counted, at least, in things like MVP votes? Are these stats recorded and displayed somewhere (e.g. shooting percentage) and if so, is the same true for goalies?)

It does not count in the player's statistics as a normal goal that is added to their season points total. However, the better they are at scoring goals in over time, which is accounted for statistically, the more the team will rely on them in these critical situations, which will probably lead to more ice time and money for them in the future.

You can go to the NHL website and look up the players stats and see how they have done in shootouts in the past.

Yeah they are recorded but I doubt they will help the player at all. After all I wouldn't use them to help me figure out who should be the MVP or anything like that. Actually basically everything is recorded. The Elias Sports Bureau makes it their buissness. During Penguins games that go into Shootouts I've notice Fox Sports Pittsburgh put up the stats of how the player has done in the shootouts this season. Not sure they do it all the time, but on the occassion I've been able to watch a game(work nights) I have seen it a few times.

no it doesn't count for any individual stats in there career but they wont have to keep track of it anyways cause the shootout will be out within the next 10 years.

stupidest thing in hockey's history NHL shootout. this is a team sport, it doesn't make the game more exiting it makes the game longer and its boring now to site and watch. they should go back to the old 10 minutes overtime 4 on 4 instead of 5 on 5 and give 3 points to the winning team and if it ends in a tie then give 1 point for the tie.

Yes. You know as well as I, that all these issues resurface time and time again. Even if official records are not kept, fans, annoucers, coaches, owners, referees, everybody, always refers back to that great save, dyke. gaol, whatever, whether in regulation, overtime, shootout, whatever.

They dont count towards your season point total, nor do they count for you season goal total, otherwise Crosby would have reached 100 points a few weeks ago
