Yes, there are numerous species of palm trees here.

Across the majority of the country Palms such as the Dwarf Sugar Palm, Formosa Palm and the Chinese Fan Palm are quite common place. In fact the streets of most cities and towns are often lined with palms - in fact I'm looking at three Formosa Palms from my very window now (I live in Taipei - the capital).

If you go a little further south - the Betel Nut Palms are very common, the fruit of this tree is used to make an addictive chewing stimulant the Chinese refer to as 'Bing Lang' - if you ever go to Taiwan and see someone drooling red saliva - it's because they're chewing Bing-Lang, it makes you salivate like a rabid dog!

Again in the more central and southern parts you can find coconut palms and indeed a variety of other palms that prefer the tropical climate the very southern most tip of Taiwan has (it just lies in the tropic of Cancer).

To sum up - yes, Taiwan has plenty of Palm trees.

yes, gobs of palm trees. Different varieties of coconuts are here. The brown fuzzy kind dont appear to be around (like in Hawaii), but perhaps thats just me not being observant.

You can see gigantic fan palms and the betel nut palms quite often. The Los Angeles style palms are not quite as easy to find. Most streets have some kind of palm trees lining them at one point or another.

Of course it does. If you live in Taiwan, visit Chiang Kai Shek (horrors) residence in Shilin suburb of Taipei. The entrance is lined with palm trees, and various kinds are on the property itself. Around Taipei, I did not see any coconut palms or what they call in USA palmettos, but many different kinds including bin lang (betel nut) palms are around. Funny - Philippines has loads of bin lang palms, but they don't know what they're for... and I miss the bin lang girls.....
