I was in the state between sleep and consciousness and I was startled when it felt like something hit me on the forehead....I was almost asleep again when I was startled again by the feeling of blood running down my head, but there was nothing there. It freaked me out and I had nightmares all night long. What do you think? (Don't tell me I'm nuts because I already know that.)

I kind of thought it was a past life, but I thought I was shot....I don't remember the dreams too well, but there was a lot of evil and death.

That's something called a "hypnogogic hallucination". In the area of semi-consciousness immediately preceeding sleep, it's possible for the realm of dream and reality to blend into one (occasionally terrifying) state of awareness. You're partially dreaming, yet partially awake--as a result, you appear to experience some pretty bizarre phenomena.

If this becomes a persistent issue, try sleeping on your side or stomach. For some reason, hypnagogic hallucinations seem to be most common when sleeping flat on your back.

It could be a number of things. The forehead is where your "third eye" is, are you not "seeing" something you should be?
Have you had premonitions before that came true? If so, watch out for low hanging things.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it starts to happen a lot, then maybe take a longer look. Just remember you are safe in your bed and try to go back to sleep.

Look, don't worry about it. It's normal (as long as you don't have a big bump/bruise on your forehead and as long as there isn't any blood on your bedsheets).

Sometimes I'm dreaming that I'm in a fight or something like that, and I wake up thinking I have been punched in the face. First thing I do is feel my face to make sure I'm okay and then go back to sleep.

Hope this helps!

Were you sleeping on your back? I have horrible nightmares when I sleep on my back for some reasons.

Nightmares are scary, but are necessary. Its a way for our mind-body and spirit to spurge itself from negative. Its problem something that you need to face or something thats bothering you in you "awake" life that you haven't dealt with and your subconscious is forcing you to deal with it.

I am not familiar with haunted houses. Do you live in an old building where something bad happened years ago? Try looking up the buildings history or ask neighbors if they had strange things happen to them.
Another option would be to check with your doctor and see if she or he has any advice.

There are times when we are visited by the unknown and this sounds like one of them. No, you are not crazy.

If you believe anything about the Bible, here is one example of God appearing in a dream:

(Genesis 20:3) But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.
