We have reduced the standards and now are willing to accept young men and women with criminal backgrounds and convictions as recruits for the Military .
So much for all of them being outstanding people .
When 99% of them come from families that earn less then 30,000 a year it is clear to see who we have in the military .
The kind of people it wants .
Easily manipulated individuals who will follow orders without question .
This is what they want but what they have is national guardsmen and troops mixed . People who had a life and family and have been told that to return to them they must first secure Iraq /Afghanistan and then they can go home .
For all those people who ever sucked it up and did what had to be done ,we all know belly aching and complaining gets us no place .
There is nothing rare about people who sat down with a recruiter and signed up so they could earn money for college or enjoy the health care provided for their wifes and children .
We got desperate honest hard working poor people to sign on the dotted line .
In hind sight if they could take it back I am certain 80% of them would .
Its to late sometimes when you get suckered to get back out of it .
If its really a volunteer army then why can they not just say no . JUST SAY NO TO GOING BACK .
Some have chosen not to return and will pay the price . While others have no option . Leavenworth and loss of benefits would have them back in a trailer park for life .

Every soldier in the military now is blind to the fact that -
1. The war in Iraq was sold on the idea that the United States was preempting a terrorist attack by Iraq. But Iraq posed no threat. The country was disarmed and had overwhelmingly complied with the extremely invasive weapons inspections.
2. Democracy has nothing to do with why the United States is in Iraq. The Bush administration invaded Iraq to secure long-established imperial interests in the Middle East--the same reason Washington backed Saddam Hussein as he carried out the worst of his crimes against the Iraqi people, the Kurds, and the Iranians
3. The invasion of Iraq has made the world a far more unstable and dangerous place. By invading Iraq, Washington sent the message to other states that anything goes in the so-called war on terror.
4. Despite all of its rhetoric about confronting Islamic fundamentalism in Iraq, the United States has in fact encouraged it, bringing formerly marginalized fundamentalist parties such as the Dawa Party and the Iranian-backed Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq into the Iraqi government.
5. The soldiers in Iraq have not died for a "noble cause," as Bush claims. Whatever personal motivations may have brought them into the military, they died for oil, for empire, for power and profit. More deaths and injuries of Iraqis and of U.S. soldiers will only compound the tragedy of the numerous lives already lost.
For these reasons and more I challenge your assertion that the troops are all "a rare and special type of person" and "their bravery and selfless sacrifice as well as their physical excellence" is helping the United States of America.
Many are fooled by so-called patriotic rhetoric, some are gung-ho killers and bloodthirsty idiots, some are trapped and want out of this whole thing, some are mentally ill as a result of this war.
Egging on blind patriotism in this particular situation I think is a crime.
If you cared sincerely about the facts you would admit this is a mistake and work to remedy it.
You are choosing another path and I submit to you that it is one based on ignorance and a lack of compassion due to being a dupe for Imperialism.
You need to read some history and put the Iraq War into context... namely, know its place in neocolonialism.

I'm really tired of all this black and white nonsense...
'Oh, since you don't support the war, you don't support the troops!'
What the hell? You know what? If we were back in WWII days, then I'd be supporting the troops AND the war! Heck, I might even sign up to go fight! *gasp*
And you know? Afghanistan? Thumbs up team! Way to go! I supported that war, as well as supporting the troops! I was a wee bit young for that one.
Then where are we? Iraq? Guess what! The reason we went to war with Iraq was proved false! But if the current administration would come out and say, 'Okay, there are no WMDs, we were incorrect in our initial assumptions, but we created a mess in Iraq and we need the American people to be with us while we clean it up,' great! Instead, they say, 'Oh, well we pulled an evil dictator out of office! We're spreading DEMOCRACY! We're doing good!' No! Don't change the subject!
Yes, I wanted to go in when the WMDs, among other things, were the reason. Now, I want the administration to start working together with the nations around Iraq in order to get us out of this war that we should never have started. And guess what? I support the troops! Half of my family is in the military! Navy, Marines, Army... but you know, I think the war we are in is crap, and we have our people over there for a fictitious excuse that supposedly makes the US the great savior.
I support the troops by wanting to bring them back.

Typical posistion of the Right, to paint the left as utterly bewildered by millitary issues.
The soldiers serving you in Iraq are brave, true but they are hardly totally selfless. Consider Abu Ghraib for a start before you begin portraying your men as "magnificent heroes" and that only conservatives understand that concept.

Are you stupid! I am a liberal and I was in Vietnam! Where have you been?
"Not lost on Conservatives"?????
Please explain why Bush wanted to cut combat pay for those in Iraq?
Please explain why Bush cut widow benefits in 1/2?
Please explain why Walter Reed services were farmed out to business, and you can see the quality of their work! This is after the privates lost the bid!
Please explain to me why Bush has cut VA Hospitals twice, while we have had 32,000 wounded, many missing limbs from IED's, yet has a tax cut for the rich in the budget!
Why, 4 years later, don't the military have armored Humvee's??
Surely you jest! Those who do serve are TOTALLY LOST ON CONSERVATIVES!

Have you ever served? I'm a Veteran and a liberal, So I don't appreciate myself? I believe the democrats are trying to find a responsible course for the war, setting benchmarks the Iraqi government must meet if they want continued American help. Republicans just keeping shoveling money at Halliburton/KBR while brave men and women die. If that's conservative respect, you can keep it

The brave and self-less young men and women that are prepared to give their lives for the country should not be used as a plaything for the Bush administration. Their role is to maintain, support and defend American interests at home and abroad.
NOT F'ing NATION BUILDING with a nice OIL sideline for a few wealthy Americans. Now do you get it?

Heaven help us when the Dems are in a position to run our military. They are doing their best to cripple the best military on earth and of course, they have no understanding of its importance. Their objective is obstruction of our President! Lets pray that they don't succeed.

Again with the "liberals don't support our troops" schtick. Liberals support our troops and are proud of them. What they don't support is the mismanagement of those troops by the powers that be. Quite a big difference, you should try and comprehend it.
By the way, not a liberal here. Just a moderate who is tired of this type of nonsense.
