I myself am in the process, but I need more details to work with...as in, what type of writing you are interested in publishing. I can give you great formatting tips for a novel, but for any writing, it is really useful to get an agent. Thye know the business the best...their job is selling your work.
Tell me if this helps. I wish you had given more details.
If you are writing a book, though here are some formating tips.
size twelve font
double-spaced
no fancy fonts
always new paper (if it looks like it has been read, the editor will think another editor read it and, thus, rejected it.)
clean, even margins
looking neat
There you go! The rest is up to you!

well, belive it or not
and no one on yahoo, does so,
but writing is a true art form,
and if you didnt have people talking with you and following you all your child hood
telling you you are gifted and talented, and can do anything you want to do
and then later on in life figure out that you didnit even knoe that everyone makes everything we use, and you can tell how they did it even whne they are not around to explain,

if you werent born to write,
it is a sin,
and if you find it hard to belive that the things we write can be explained in wordsa, then i cant understand why someone would leave this to rot?
