Well, I got my period today and I have never used a tampon before. But, I'm on March break and I'm going to be doing lots of swimming. I don't want to get a leak because I have a very heavy flow. I own a couple tampons , and need help on using them for the first time. Girls, please help!!

ok, this is embarrassing for me, but in the hopes that another girl doesn't make the same mistake I did, I am sharing. When I used a tampon for the first time, it was a cardboard applicator. I didn't know how to use it so I put the whole thing up in me, cardboard and all. it was very uncomfortable and unsanitary. Of course nowadays they have the plastic applicators. I would make sure to use one of those. You prop your leg up on the side of the toilet or tub, and hold on to the tampon by the handle. You push until the tampon is in, and then you take the plastic part and wrap it in toilet paper and throw it away. There are pictures and instructions included in the package, be sure to read them carefully. If you have a heavy flow, I would suggest changing it every hour or two. I can't use tampons myself because my flow is so heavy I always bleed through them. Which causes more embarrassing situations for me.

Just be relaxed when you first insert it. Use a mirror.

It may take a while before you finally get it in, use some vaseline on the tip of the tampon to help glide it in.

Also use slender tampons, whatever is thinnest for you to use the first time, after using them you could try a "bigger" tampon. Just remember to change your tampon often, especially with a heavy flow.

ok first you need to relax because if youre nervous your muscles tense up and make it harder to insert. Just carefully follow the instructions on the box.

I saw someone else said about the toxic infections, you CAN get this, if you leave the tampon in for longer than it should be, (i think its six hours, check the box) it;s called TSS (toxic shock syndrome) and these can be really dangerous so please make sure you dont leave them in for too long!

I am a single dad with girls. I bought every feminine product made and then sat down and read the directions to all of them and put the products out for their use.

Just get into a comfertable position and follow the directions on the box. -1st insirt the applicator, -2nd push on the other end, - 3rd remove applicator. DON'T BE SCARED! It only makes it harder.
