I've never managed to watch the whole movie, since it tends to come on on weekends when my stepkids are here, but since Jimmy Buffet does the song, I have it on cd, and I was wondering what the 'terminal daydrem' refers to.

I take it as referring to a person whose daydreaming is never-ending or permanent ("terminal").
