I am trying to access a british website from germany but can only access the german lanugage version. Typing in the .co.uk address does not help, it still reverts to a .de

I would bet that the site uses your Brwoser identification to display the site in german.
I do not know if there is a possibility in IE to change that, in Firefox and Opera you can easily do set it to english.
I only use firefox and there you can change it by Tools - Options - Advanced - General - Language and set it to english (Extras - Optionen - Erweitert - Allgemein - Sprache if I remember well ... it is a year ago since I used the german firefox)
After the change click on reload if the site is still in german.

thanks for the link. When I type in www.advfn.co.uk it automatically reverts to http://www.advfn.com/ and is in english. If that is any help try the .com site.
