Forgive yourself. People make mistakes. The important thing is learning from them, so they're not repeated. If you've hurt someone, apologize sincerely.

Yes. I cheated on a former fiance' and he found out and left me. He was the best thing that ever happened to me and I honestly don't know why I did it because I really did love him. That was 27 years ago, and I've been married twice since then, but I just can't get over the shame of hurting him the way I did for no good reason. I ran into him two years ago and the first thing out of his mouth was: "I almost married you". I coyly said: Is that a good thing or a bad thing? And he said: "I'll never know, will I"? and walked away. The shame came back all fresh and new after that.
