I don't really understand how Disney Channel makes any money. Every commercial they have is for other Disney shows or movies, so they're not getting any advertising revenue like a normal network. So how do they make any money?

I've actually thought about this before and this is the answer that I came up with... You decide whether or not you feel the same way:

As my sibblings watch the Disney Channel, I noticed just how much they advertise all of their theme parks and the actors and actresses themselves. Basically, Disney Channel is watched by over millions of kids out there and if they see their idol (Hannah Montana, those High School Musical kids..) at Disney World, chances are, they'll want to go. They'll want to buy that new High School Musical DVD just because its a new special edition even if they've already seen it a thousand times. Those preteens will want want want, and their parents will just buy the stuff for them.
Every commercial break, it's either about a new cd, dvd, or movie release. They play it over and over again so that next time they're at the mall or at the theatre, the kids will want it and parents will pay bucks towards Disney.
Because of advertising, they get money off cd and dvd sales, concert tickets, movie tickets, theme parks... etc.
So Disney is taking it into another route and instead of getting third-party advertising on their channel, its all from the family.

The Disney Channel itself does not need to make revenue off of advertising. They promote other Disney movies and shows to get people to buy those DVDs, buy the Disney licensed shirts with those characters on them and stuff like that. Remember, Disney owns The Disney Channel, ABC, ABC Family and all the ESPN Channels. If a cable or Satellite carrier wants to carry the ABC Networks and ESPN Networks ( Which they must to keep subscriptions up ) than they have to take Disney Channel as well.

There are some great answers up above. I just wanted to add also, that every single movie and show on the Disney Channel has DVD's, CD's, books, toys, ect. This brings in lots of money to help sustain the channel. I don't think you can go anywhere with out seeing High School Musical or Mickey Mouse Club House product. They hit all age groups.

Are you kidding me they make tons of money. They make money off the DVDs they advertise and the new movie that are coming out and also they play a lot of their Disney tween stars music videos so I'm sure they make money off of their CD sales. Haven't you noticed every kid on the Disney channel sings and has a CD out. It's crazy it's all a big conspiracy.

My guess is that part of the money from sales of Disney-branded products, including tickets to Disney movies and theme parks, funds the Disney Channel and Toon Disney.

Disney Channel is broadcast on cable, so viewers must pay to access it.

Perhaps the Disney Channel itself is not a money-maker, but it serves as one continuous commercial for other Disney products. You needed feel terribly sorry for the owners of the Disney company. They won't need feed stamps soon.

they do have commercials for other companies, not just Disney Channel. And there is also a lot of product placement in Disney shows, so when they advertise the shows, they are indirectly advertising other products.

The cable networks pay the Disney channel a fee per subscriber. The more people that want the channel, the more cable networks that will carry it, with correspondingly higher fees.

They also own ABC and ABC Family. Think about all the products like toys and clothes from Disney shows that are sold.
