why do people just assume the stereotypes, rather than get to know me first?

Well don't think that people in the whole are going to do that. The people who do are just ignorant. But if say that all 'people' assume the stereotype then you are stereotyping people also. You'll find people out there that see you for who you are.

Maybe because you just stereotyped yourself. You just said you were "preppy" instead of saying that you are who you are. Now, by being a preppy and knowing it, tells me that your goal is to project that image to the public. If that is your goal why are you complaining?

It's more efficient to judge people based on past experience than spend time with everyone you meet and try to get to know them

beacuse it's easy to prjudge someone. people do it to me all the time. and admit it... you've probably done it yourself at times! it's mainly about growning up, i think as you mature you learn a bit more that no sterotype is ever fully true.

Most people get nervous if they cannot put everyone into a convenient little "box". I celebrate diversity myself which escapes most people.

well most people who portray themselves as preppy.. also portray themselves as smart, athletic etc
asian people have been raised to take studies seriously... so we think they are smart...
