Alienware has some of the best ps's available. Some people argue that they are to costly, but the components used in these computers are not of low quality, like some companies use to cut costs, and they have the worlds best support!

I would suggest you get one second hand that's in good shape and put an easy to use version of Linux on it. It should cost you around 300 bucks.

If you think Linux is for fast typing geeks, do a search on YouTube for "Beryl linux". Some have said Beryl makes Vista's Aero look old and boring.

If you're looking for a place to start (there are over 200 versions of Linux) I, personally, use Ubuntu. You may prefer Kubuntu - it's slightly more like your familiar XP.

HP Pavillions are really good and they come in various weight and sizes for about 700-800$
