This particular example happens to be stated by a Liberal although I am asking this is a bi-partisan question as both sides are guilty of stating mistruths as facts while refusing to provide backup and/or sources.

This particular person states that it is the Dems and Libs that are the majority signing up to fight in Iraq. I think it's pretty much a general consensus on Y!A that the Liberals are anti-war and the Conservatives are the "war-mongers". Here is the further statistical evidence that 57% of service members identify themselves as Rep as compared to 13% Dem (not from Fox News)...

My question is whether or not you believe that people who make blantantly false statements ACTUALLY believe what they are saying or whether they are intentionally lying.
All opinions welcome, thanks!

Anthonyinkc: It is not a truth. It is a proven falsehood. Please see the above link to msnbc. 57% are Republican 13% are Democrat. But thanks, I guess you are on the BELIEVE side of things.
Cantcu- As to whether or not you feel they are brainwashed it is only up to the person to decide what they are. Therefore it is irrelevant how they might possible have come to believe in Rep ideas. The fact is they are Rep.

Cantcu- There are sons and daughters of rich Republicans in Iraq. Presidential candidate and current CA Senator, Duncan Hunter has a son that was deployed to Iraq. See source:

I've been amazed, for quite some time now, by what people believe is the truth. I believe that some people are flat out lying, but they shouldn't concern anyone, because most of them aren't very convincing liars. It's the people who continue to hold on to beliefs, in the face of the truth, that concern me.
If truth cannot be used to reason with these people; these people cannot be reasoned with at all.

I think they are intentionally being deceptive by posting these false statements. Everyone knows that most liberals are opposed to this war and that the majority of the military are Republicans. That's common knowledge. Liberals like this just want to paint all Republicans as corrupt hypocrites who don't practice what they preach. In truth, the majority of the brave ones who sign to fight in Iraq are Republicans.

Actually, those in the military are brainwashed and they really don't know what they are! I went through that period! I was the most conservative person in the military until I later found out all our troops went to war based on a lie begun by the "Gulf of Tonkin Resolution? that all the Republicans voted for!
The real question is why aren't there any rich Republicans son's and daughter's fighting in Iraq if they believe the blatant lies of Bush? Why don't his daughters join?

I don't know. Some seem to actually believe it even when proved wrong with facts.

I think they actually believe what they are saying. I think we start with a world-view, and filter facts through that world view.
It is why my mantra is "I blame public education."
