I've never heard of it, but I think it's a GREAT idea! I think new dads are unfairly left out of the whole "baby" experience. I think it should be like any other party with the guys. He'll just like the idea of all of his friends getting together to celebrate a great event in his life.
You're an okay guy!!!! Good idea.

Ive never heard of a "male" baby shower. However I have heard of "couples" baby showers where both mom and dad as present to recieve the gifts and be the center of attention {since that will be the last time once the baby is born}. Also both males and females attend the shower. Ive never known the men to play the stupid little games usually they wait for the gifts to be opened then go off into the kitchen and eat
By the way my first child will be 14 in a few weeks, and we also have a 9 month old. We tried for over 10 yrs to have this little guy would have been awesome had my husband attended our shower

HEY I HAVE A GREAT IDEA!!
All males, I am assuming. Have a poker-oriented celebration for the little one. The buy in would be a package of diapers!! The winner would receive a really nice prize....like a gift certificate to Home Depot or Best Buy, etc.
It's guys....so a lot of that etiquette with showers can be thrown out the window. On the invites....tell the guests to bring the specific brand of diapers (Pampers Swaddlers are a great brand...they tend to fit most babies). Ask for size 1 or 2 diapers in case the baby is a little bigger than average (baby will outgrow the Newborn diapers really fast!!).
Since it is all guys...have beer, have chips, have cigars!! A regular old poker night with the guys. Dad just gets to go home with tons of diapers...and some lucky guest gets to go home with a great gift certificate!
Hope that helps....

I've never heard of a male baby shower, but my hubby and I and had a couples shower.
I'm sure a male shower is just as cool. I think it's awesome that you think enough of him to want to do something special.
You are a great brother in law, keep up the good work.

I have heard of 'couples' showers, but never a male baby shower. I think it would be a great idea.
It could be a sports oriented shower. Even if the baby is a girl, you can buy uniforms from most any major sports team for little girls. Pink baseball hats, gloves.
It sounds like fun, and I think your BIL will get a kick out of it.

Of course, I'm sure he'd love to have extra gifts for the baby. That way they don't have to spend as much money themselves on gifts. Just make sure all the other guys are in on the shower. If not just have them all over for beer and pizza and bring a baby gift or giftcards. That way it won't be so "girly". Or you could make it a coed party so everybody can join in. Do what you want, its a free country buddy. In fact that's a good idea for me since i'm having a baby too.

Sure! It can't hurt. Especially since he'll be doing a lot of helping out with the baby. Good idea! If he doesn't have a camera, maybe you can all chip in for one of them and a photo album. "Best Dad" hat and/or t-shirt. Baby bottles and diapers. Bedding for the crib. And on and on. Just go into the baby section at a department store, and you'll get loads of ideas. He's so lucky to have a relative like you!!!

My husband's sisters threw the baby shower for me and he attended. Maybe you and your wife could do the same for them?
Usually a baby shower is a get-together where people get to see the big preggie woman or hold the baby (depending on when you do it.) It's more of something for the mom-- do something for mom, but invite dad to attend.

If you have a lot of men in the family that would come, that might work. I don't think many men would be interested in that kind of thing. Maybe a couples shower would work better.
