I was wondering if the "blood brother/sister" thing can cause health complications; besides HIV, is there a medical reason not to do that? ( I am advising young children, and I could not find a real answer).

Infection from an open wound. Forget the fact you can get HIV and other transmittable deseases, you can get them all but even if that were not an issure, most of them are not going to use steril utensils to cut themselves and then probably won't clean the cuts well when they are done so they are prone to infections of other types.

We don't do the "blood brother/sister" thing here in Australia but if i am correct that is where you and another person cut their finger and mix the blood.
If they are kids i can't imagine they would have AIDS, wouldn't they need to swap a fair bit of blood to catch any diseases. Let the kids have their fun.
It's not like you are going to be blood brother/sister with the local drug user or prostitute or gay person.

I not sure if I understand your question. Can you be more precise. If you are talking about brothers and sisters having sex with each other [which I hope that is not the case], there is probably not many health complications. It is very frowned upon socially, morally and probably psychologically damaging.

Well, any time you open a wound you risk potential infection. There are some staff infections that are pretty serious and could even be fatal. My dad died from one of them. i also don't think self cutting is a great example. Why do people feel they need to injure themselves to form a friendship? There seems to be better choices.

HIV and hepatitus are both blood borne viruses, and "blood brother/sisters" can give both to one another.
