x= negative 16 because you take all of the x's to one sid which would leave you with 5x +3x = 8x then -x =7x then take 6x from one side and subtract it to the other side so it makes x+8+5=-3 then subtract (8+5) to get the x alone on one side. So x=-16

first combine like terms so..

5x+3x-x=7x
and 8+5=13

therefore
7x+13=6x-3

then you want to get the x's on one side

7x+13=6x-3
-7x +3 -7x +3
__________
16=-1x

divide each side by -1

x=-16
