I am going to make my own runes. I have been told that I need to use Ash but would like to use Willow instead as I connect to it more easily spiritually. Does any one know if it will effect the runes if I use Willow wood?

consider that you are making the runes for your own personal use...use whatever wood YOU feel is besat to get the best connective energies from.
there is no "right or correct" wood to use just as there is no "others" written spells that would work well for you. Blessed Be that you are making your own for when you do, you are putting part of yourself into them

answer: Yes, I have. Several sets. Out of oak, pine, ash, elm, fruitwood and cedar. I've cut the branches, cut the disks, removed the bark, sanded the wood and carved the rune. I've also used dowels - which are typical made out of ash, a good wood for runes. Others are incorrect (about that and other things) there is enough from manuscripts, the sagas, the Eddas and runestones to piece together what the runes meant. Avoid any book or chart that uses a "blank rune" - that's a modern invention with no basis in rune history. Avoid any book by Ralph Blum - he's a hack. Avoid a book called "Lady of the Northern Lights" - feminist rewriting of history and runes with no accuracy or basis. For modern rune working - early works by Edred Thorsson or Taking Up the Runes by Diana Paxson. # # # I'll send you links to reputable meanings. Secret Agent is being a smart aleck - ignore.

I can see no reason why your runes would be affected adversely. If you connect more easily to willow, by all means use willow wood! You are the only real judge of what will work better for you. When it come to tools of this nature, my only advice is to follow your instinct. Have fun making your runes!

I think willow is a nice choice. You can use whatever you feel a connection to. They are your runes and you need to feel that connection to get more accurate readings from them.
