Good question. I don't smoke pot myself, but I am one to argue about this as well. No one has ever been known to have died from smoking marijuana. Can we say this about alcohol? Alcohol is toxic if consumed in great amounts, and it causes the brain work slower, resulting in slower reaction time, causing accidents. Yes marijuana could have the same effects (slowed reaction time), but why do they at least give us laws about alcohol, it's ok as long as you are not driving, its ok as long as you are not drunk on the job. Why not regulate those same laws with marijuana?Yes it can be addicting, but I've heard that it cannot become physically addictive, mainly just mentally. But besides, cigarrettes are addicting, and they are legal, and more harmful than marijuana because of all the additives. It is because of money. Hemp is known to be stronger and more durable than cotton. If marijuana was legal, you would have hemp all over the place, and the cotton farmers would go out of bussiness.

Well, we tried making alcohol illegal (this is what "prohibition" was all about) but it didn't stop anyone from drinking, and just incited mob smuggling and violence.

With that as a comparison point, some say we should make marijuana legal and regulate it, but the anti-drug lobby view that as being permissive about drugs. On the other hand, we've got it illegal now and still people use it and there's violence over it (same as when alcohol was prohibited). Nevertheless, I assume marijuana won't be legalized anytime soon, any more than alcohol will be made illegal anytime soon.

Too much money in it for the alcohol people, too much reputation in it for the anti-drug people.

I would say that marijuana is still illegal because the federal government has not yet figured a way to package and tax it. Alcohol is definately the greater evil in my opinion because it is so readily available. How many people have drove stoned and caused serious accidents on the roads?? Alcohol takes a normal person and turns them into, loud, obnoxious, stupid monsters. It makes you feel like you are 10 feet tall and bullet proof.

Marijuana if not use by trained physicians can be very dangerous because it contain very addictive substances compare to alcohol, Please read following article.

Cannabis (also known as marijuana) or ganja in its herbal form and hashish in its resinous form is a psychoactive product of the plant Cannabis sativa L. subsp. indica (= C. indica Lam.). The herbal form of the drug consists of dried mature inflorescences and subtending leaves of pistillate ("female") plants. The resinous form consists primarily of glandular trichomes collected from the same plant material. It has been reported that commercial hashish is often no more potent than high quality seedless marijuana. However, carefully produced and screened hashish is up to three times as potent as the highest quality herbal varieties.

The major biologically active chemical compound in Cannabis is Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly referred to as THC. It has psychoactive and physiological effects when consumed, usually by smoking or ingestion. The minimum amount of THC required to have a perceptible psychoactive effect is about 5 mg. A related compound, Δ9-tetrahydrocannabidivarin, also know as THCV, is produced in appreciable amounts by certain drug strains. This cannabinoid has been described in the popular literature as having shorter-acting, flashier effects than THC, but recent studies suggest that it may actually inhibit the effects of THC. Relatively high levels of THCV are common in African dagga (marijuana), and in hashish from the northwest Himalayas.
Humans have been consuming Cannabis since prehistory, although in the 20th century there was a rise in its use for recreational, religious or spiritual, and medicinal purposes. It is estimated that Cannabis is now regularly used by four percent of the world's adult population, with estimates of up to 20% or greater of the adult population in the United States having tried the drug, and 10-30% or greater using the herb in many European countries. The possession, use, or sale of psychoactive Cannabis products became illegal in most parts of the world in the early 20th century. Since then, some countries have intensified the enforcement of Cannabis prohibition while others have reduced the priority of enforcement, almost to the point of legalization, as is the case in The Netherlands. The production of Cannabis for drug use remains illegal throughout most of the world through the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances, and the 1988 United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, while simple possession of small quantities is either legal, or treated as an addiction rather than a criminal offense in a few countries. The laws in the United States vary from state to state, some having decriminalized the possession of small amounts of marijuana although it is still a federal crime.

the government had a undesirable adventure with alcohol - they tried to make it unlawful after it become criminal and it did no longer artwork out so warm. So, they are relatively apprehensive approximately legalizing something using fact they be attentive to whilst they legalize it, this is throughout. they gained't have the skill to returned-music if that's a mistake. Alcohol is definitely certainly one of the WORST element they'd have legalized. this is the worst using fact it outcomes each little thing of the physique - the liver, the different organs, the floor, the concepts... in my opinion, i think of all drugs must be legalized. Use the money to pay for drug medical care courses. The jails may well be regularly empty, we'd have a getting to grasp curve (as we've had with alcohol) and then issues might even out.

because of christianity, they have to "drink the blood of christ" which is wine, if alcohol was illegal it would jeopardize the church, that is the only reason why it is legal. And weed is illegal because mexicans were traveling over the border, and making more money then the american farmer could, so they outlawed weed so that mexicans wouldn't get more money than americans, or have reason to come live over here.
