bruising is bleeding under the skin
small to quite substantial blood vessels,
get damaged by a blow,
( or in your case a twist ) to the area

So blood leaks into the surrounding tissues

This is eventually re-absorbed into the system.
Hence the changing colours of a bruise
over a period of time .!,

A bruise can be a sign of a fracture ,
and the pain could mean, possible bony injuries , damage to tendons ,and blood vessels
.
keep the leg up, supported by a cushion ...
Apply a cold compress , in the first instance,
This will help, reduce swelling and ease the pain .

If things get worse and you find ,you cannot weight bear

Go to your nearest A & E.
Get your ankle checked out and treated

i hope you will soon feel better

( leave those high heels at home, for a bit !)

Bruising can be caused by........Blunt trauma / injury to tissues, resulting in damage to blood vessels beneath the surface. Blood leaks out ('extravasation') into surrounding tissues from damaged capillaries, venules and arterioles. Bruises may be surface bruises, or deeper within tissues or organs.
Possibly a fracture. If you have a fractured ankle, your symptoms probably will include: pain, swelling, tenderness and bruising at your ankle joint
Inability to move your ankle through its normal range of motion
Inability to bear weight on your injured ankle — However, if you can bear weight on the ankle, don't assume there is no fracture.
In some cases, a "crack" or "snap" in the ankle at the time of injury.

Basically blood vessels have been damaged and blood has leaked out under the skin. This blood goes through a number of chemical changes, on its way to being re-absorbed. This produces the typical colour sequences that a bruise goes through as it resolves.

Twisting your ankle caused the bruising!

You broke blood vessels under the skin. What you are seeing in the bruising is bleeding under the skin. Why would you continue walking on heels after you hurt your ankle once. I can't feel a lot of sympathy for people who wear very high heels and keep wearing them after they have hurt themselves. Sorry, you bring this on yourself.

Bruising is caused by bleeding under the skin. You may need to get that ankle looked at.

A good definition of a bruise is: "A bruise or contusion or ecchymosis is a kind of injury, usually caused by blunt impact, in which the capillaries are damaged, allowing blood to seep into the surrounding tissue. "

In other words, when you've twisted your ankle, you must have damaged some of the tiny blood capillaries in the area, which in turn leads to the brusing.

ecchymoses is a closed wound involving the underlying tissues. discoloration of an area of skin or mucous membrane secondary to extraction of blood into the subcutaneous tissues
Contusions are caused by a blow and characterized by edema which may appear within 24 - 48 hours, discoloration as a result of a hematoma(swelling containing blood) initially the discoloration is blackish-blue then turns to green or yellow within a few days, and pain, strains and sprains are common types. Mostly accur during falls, automobile accidents or contact sports.
Interventions:ice pack and padding and a soft roller bandage may be used for pressure.
