If you are only patching very small holes and want to paint, by the time you get to them they should be dry enough. If you want to speed the process get a hair dryer or space heater and it will only take a couple minutes to dry.

Good Luck!

If the temperature is above 60 degrees F, small holes less than 1/8" will dry well enough to sand in 15 minutes

should only take a few hours if on sheetoc, but if the holes are big and you are trying to fill them with one sweep, you may have to wait several days.
try 'easysand' 20 minute fix or sheetroc fast dry; they dry in just a moment and you can continue to go over it in 30 min or less.
wipe smooth so you don't have to sand, make a better bond and less cleanup.
