Make out a business plan. If you live in UK contact your local Chamber of Commerce or The Citizens Advice Bureau on any enterprise advice service available in your area..

Do something you are passionate about.
Know your market. Research.
Try from home on a small scale to set yourself a template for the future without the full risk.
Be better than your competition.

well you need to have an idea of what you want to do - perhaps a hobby etc or something you are skilled in.
then you need to research, research, research!!
if no-one is interested in what you have to offer then you will not succeed!
you then need to contact business advice/information organisations like business link etc.. here are a few to get you started:
http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/home?r.s=l
http://www.sbs.gov.uk/sbsgov/action/home?&ref=http%3A//www.google.co.uk/search%3Flr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8%26q%3DDTI%27s%2520Small%2520Business%2520Service&domain=www.sbs.gov.uk

http://www.clearlybusiness.com/advice-and-support/
once you have this information in place perhaps a business planning course would be useful? try this one which you can do from home http://green-star-training.co.uk/
