What is the best way to get in shape for basketball?

I mean I don't want to go out and run 5 miles because I am trying to put on muscle.

So, what is the easiest way to get in the best shape? I know you can do things like sled pulls and such. What are your suggestions?

Do gut-busters. Since basketball is a game of short bursts of high speed, this is the best drill there is. On the basketball court, start on the baseline, sprint out to the free-throw line, touch it, run back and touch the baseline, sprint out to the three point line and touch it, then back to the baseline, then go half-court, far three point line, far free throw line, far baseline. Then you're done. Do it with a friend as this will make you push yourself more with a little competition.

I WOULD suggest running at least a mile a day if you want to be in shape for basketball. And if you want build muscle while being in shape for basketball, try lifting weights and do a LOT of push-ups. Just playing basketball with your friends for a while everyday helps too. It's all hard work, but it worked for me and it's worth it.
