I haven't heard anything new that I like on the radio in a long time. Am I just getting old, or is rock really dying?

The new groups have a totally different style. I like them, but not well enough to buy their Cd's. Even if older artists have new music the radio stations won't play it. Tom Petty was nominated for a Grammy and I haven't heard one song from his new CD.

I don't think it's come to a standstill, more of a slow crawl. The sound has certainly changed but there are bands out there like Weezer, Cake, The Strokes, and The Kilers that have putting out good music that, with the exception of the killers, isn't all that radio friendly. If you listen to the Tragically Hip they've been putting out solid rock albums for a long time now and they still manage to sound fresh. Listen to Sloan's CD called Navy Blues or One Chord to Another. Neil Young's Mirrorball is fantastic and there's an Irish band called the Frames that put out some good stuff.

Yes, I think it has come to a standstill. I haven't heard anything new and good in that category for a long time, either. It has been surpassed by angsty, self-absorbed, self-loathing, pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth music. Its a sign of the times. People aren't into a rock and roll state of mind.

Rock has been at a standstill for at least 2 decades or so. It happened with it turned into screaming and rage instead of musical skill. Rap didn't help much either.
