My son moved to Orlando to go to school and rented an apartment close to the school that he could afford. After moving in he found out that this area was full of crime. He hadn't been told about this from the apartment managers and he is from Washington and was not familiar with the Orlando area.In the 31/2 months he has been there he has had his car broken into and things stolen and his apartment had an attempted breakin just last week. He is afraid that it will not stop there and he is also afraid for his safety. Is there in way he can get out of his lease because of this? Please he needs your help!

Unfortunetly, checking crime rates is part of the "due diligance" you are supposed to perform when searching for an apartment. Check the laws in the city, but some areas require landlords provide deadbolts, along with locks on every window. Those items should help.

I lived in a rough area for a long time. The best thing to do about the car is to make sure there is nothing of value in it, and leave the windows down or the doors unlocked. It beats finding broken windows all the time.

His lease probably does allow him to break it, if he has to, for a fine (about 1 months rent on top of the security deposit would be my guess). He could also find someone else to take his place, and ask the landlord to sublease the apartment. Good luck, I feel for your situation.

The second part of his due diligence should be reading the fine print in the lease agreement. Crime is every where.

if hes worry about his safety he would do anything he could to move out..break the lease and just pay the fine..dont risk his safety by trying to argue with the landlord and stuff like that..just get out!

IT WAS UP TO HIM TO RESEARCH THE NEIGHBORHOOD
CONDITIONS.

ANYWAY, YOU SOUND LIKE A GOOD MOM SO TELL HIM TO PACK-UP INFORM HIS LANDLORD HE IS LEAVING EARLY AND GET HIM ANOTHER PLACE.

HE NEEDS TO CONCENTRATE ON SCHOOL NOT THIS!

GOOD LUCK!
