What were some of the arguments made by William Jennings Bryan and Clarence Darrow in this case

Darrow argued that creationism was religion specific and that it was banned by the 1st amendment. WJB argued that the bible contained truth and that it should be taught, and that the issue in the case was whether Scopes had disobeyed the law banning teaching of evolution or not.

Accually, Bryan won. however, the fine was waived, and creationists came out of it looking like fools.

The basic argument was creation vs. evolution. BUT, it was basically a show trial. It was a major trial for the time when a school teacher was convicted, and fined, for teaching evolution.

A good movie about the trial is "Inherit the wind". Go rent it!
