I am doing a project for GCE and I need to come up with some advantages for displaying art at an art convention as an alternate method, rather than creating a website.

Uh, maybe somebody will buy one? I don't know. If its recognition your looking for a convention might draw critics and they might like your work. So you can get a good buzz going. That translates to money!

critic to rich snob: "have you seen the new (insert your name here) collection?"
Rich: "Can't say that I have"
Critic: " It is post-modern retrospective impressionistic collage of..........."
Rich: "Daarrrliiing I must aquire one, oh Chaucie! where is my caviar and champagne!"

Cha-Ching!

I would say the best method would be to do both, but you could say that art at an art convention reaches a diffferent audience. depending upon who you want to reach with your art, you might not be expect high-tech type people to be your best market. At an art convention those without internet can also view your art. Additionally, they can view the originals, which could help if the art is very detailed.
Also, the problem with a website is getting people to go to it- you need to get it to show up in a yahoo or google search, or advertise for it in other ways. Just having a website doesn't mean people will be going to it, whereas you don't have to do your own advertising to get people to go to an art convention.

It beats showing art at a monster truck rally by a mile.
