Sometimes, I just get plain tired of school and wish I could play hooky. I need to get motivated.

Hey, I know how you feel. I often felt that way when I was your age, felt that way many times through college, and still feel that way occasionally now.

The thing is, society's expectations really don't matter. You will, at some point, find something you want to do with your life. No matter what that is, education is important. Let's say you went to college and meandered, majoring in business because you couldn't think of anything better to major in. However, you end up an artist. It happens, you know. Well, was the business education worthless? No, it helped make the artist.

Skepticism is a good thing, but cynicism is not. It can be a fine line that you have to monitor very carefully. Cynicism is purely negative, and it causes a person to reject even the simplest truths around them.

But, yeah, go to school. I'm not advocating that you get yourself into trouble, but challenge what you learn there. In doing so you'll learn twice as much as most of your classmates and you'll keep yourself engaged in the process. They'll learn facts and figures. So will you. But you'll also learn how to think and that'll give you a huge advantage. You'll see connections between disciplines they'll never dream of making.

What I'm trying to say is that intelligence is not necessarily something you're just born with. It needs to be refined, not unlike a skill. School is the medium through which you can do that but they can't teach it. You have to do it for yourself. Good teachers can help you...average teachers won't even know what I'm talking about.

Edit -- I have something to add.

You can also learn something from anybody. Even if you feel your teachers are dolts, you can still learn from them if you keep your eyes and mind open. You can learn from anyone. Shut off nothing. Some of my best life lessons were taught to me by total idiots...whether they realized it or not.

There are no shortcuts or free lunches in life. One ought to go through certain essential phases in ones growth and schooling is one such essential phase for the non-geniuses.
Learn to love school. You can definitely find a real lovable aspect in school if you search sincerely.
