This is a tough question to answer here. Sure your eye color plays a role in what shadows you should use, but I think this is more so the tint rather than the actual color itself. Your skin tone and outfit also play a role in what would look best. You should buy a cheap eyeshawdow pallette (like the off brand ones that have about 20 different colors) and experiment with shades until you find the ones that look best on you. Then when you find colors you like, buy them in the litte packs that have several tints and complimenting tones all in one. Usually you can find these in packs of 2-8.

I think that a nice smoky eye look will be great with your lovely dark blue eyes. You should use dark blue mascara and some denim eyeliner, to accentuate your lovely eye tones. I think that a nice purple eyeshadow would work well with those big blues of yours. The purple will off set all the blue around your eyes. But it has to be a VERY light purple, or you'll just end up looking washed out and corpsy. Trust ME! I tried this look on my BFF and she looked ah-MAZING! Ehmagawd, she looked SOOOOO hawt! The look really worked to offset your nice sapphire eyes.

For darkish blue eyes, a bronze eyeshadow or a brown with gold in it (or gold eyeshadow while you're adventurous) will compliment your eyes the perfect. Browns, golds, and oranges compliment the blue on your eyes and may cause them to stand out.

I have dark blue eyes too. I use goldish browns, or any shade of earthtones. Of course, it always depends on what color hair you have. putting a shimmery color above the lashes does lighten the eye.

You can't really lighten your eyes, but a mixture of grey and light pale blue will look nice with blue eyes.
