Once they can read, write and do their maths, isn't the rest just a frippery and they are just being sent there to be kept off the streets.

Once you have the ability to read you can become an autodidact, so that makes school even less of a requirement.

you missed out two very important lessons, eg- geography and history and the time spent at school is still not enough to embrace all the things you will come up against during your life span// a second language very important these days of instant travel and the correct age to learn it when your young /an hour a day on current events around the world/ and religion for those who wish so the hours spent at school each day are not really long enough at this time of learning

I have no idea! I guess it is the law or something! There are some poor people who would do anything if they had the chance to educate themselves along with some parents! So I would always advice you to always be thankful and grateful to God of what you have because if you aren't grateful and thankful he could take everything away from you in less than a blink of an eye or even less!

its not just about math and English and all the lessons, its about social skills too.
when you are 16 and leave school, think back to how immature you were.

most 16 - 18 year olds don't have a clue what to do with their life and what career they want to pursue.

I believe it would be nicer to start school a little later and stay on in education until 19 or 20. We all know the mind matures with age.

ah, but in my experience you cant read, write or do basic maths... and its only 10 or 12 years... this may seem like its forever, but believe me, its only perspective... 10 years in my life had just evaporated in about twenty minutes... my eldest daughter is just about to go to the 6th form.. at her age i was working... and it seems only last week that i was holding her in my arms as we bought her home from the hospital...

you need to learn far more than just the basics... unless your idea of a career is flipping burgers at macmurderburgers... or pumping petrol... or working at woolies on the makeup counter... which is ok when youre 16 or 17... not much fun if youre still there 20 years later...

You obviously don't know too many people who did not have the opportunity to finish their education. And what's wrong with keeping them off the streets anyway?

Learning is for life. There is a legal limit. However it will not be in your interest to stop. The more you learn the better.

7 hours? Tell me about it. We do reading for an hour. AND MATH FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF! SO NOT FAIR! Writing takes an hour too. No one cares about school.
