Mesquite is pretty big, we have a ton of schools and 3 5A high schools, so that's pretty big. We do have many good neighborhoods, but like every city we have a bad neighborhood too. It's actually balch springs, but they intermix with us because some come to Mesquite schools.
You can find pretty much everything here. Town East is where all the shopping is (Town East Mall, bookstop, starbucks, target, old navy). It may not sound like good stuff, but trust me it's better than the town where I go to school. We're not that far from Dallas (only about 20-25 minutes) so most people commute into Dallas for work, and my family and I go into Dallas on the weekends for shopping and such.
Mesquite also has a surprisinly good symphony who regularlly give concerts. We also have two librarys which look very much like they were built in the 60s/70s, but they're pretty good as to what they carry. And of course, as everyone knows we have the rodeo. But the majority of the residents here have only ever been to the rodeo because we get free tickets from school during the rodeo.
I'm trying to think of other stuff, but I haven't been here much lately (college in VA) so I can't remember a lot. It's actually a lot bigger than you think. But if you really want to know what it's like you should come visit and see for yourself. It really is an experience that can't be described. Hope this helps, and good luck writing your book!

Well mesquite is a suburb of Dallas so its a nice size town. Plenty of shopping and restaurants. Mesquite is of course know for the Mesquite Rodeo...used to be on national television many years ago. It is your typical "city." Not really any land to describe because its all built up.

On I-30 this is going to purely take 15-20 minutes optimal. Mesquite is totally on 635 and 30. this is going to take purely next day floor via way of UPS. this is approximately 15-20 miles away or relatively much less from the middle of Dallas.

its about 40,000 people. Its on the East side of dallas tx. It's part of the "Metroplex". If she going to work in downtown Dallas, the traffic will suck. It's also bad on ^#%/ LBJ highway. (loops around most of Dallas. It looks like a small Dallas. It all runs together.High schools are pretty much the same everywhere here. Some kids do drugs, cutters, nice, dorky, smart, emos, etc. Hot as hell during the summer.

I used to work there. It's run down, trash everywhere, and high crime. There's a few nice houses scattered around the city, but most of it consists of houses and apartments that just needs to be torn down. Other than that, it also has a bunch of warehouses and factories for transportation companies.
In a nutshell, if you ever wondered what it would be like to get shot, go into one of the apartment complexes there. You'll get shot pretty quick.
