I want to go to Copenhagen in August, I have found cheap flights, etc. My question is, how safe is it for a 16 year old male alone. I dress kinda "emo".

Obviously, there's risk everywhere, but this is something I'd like to do.

On a side note, how safe is Helsinki and Stockholm under the same circumstances?

hello,
I've been living in Copenhagen for the past 4½ years and the one thing you learn very fast is that you'll be as safe as you want to be, just like anywhere else ... people are as friendly with you as you are with them ... there are certain, quite small areas, of the city that are a bit risky at 3 am saturday ... but noone is going to pick on you because you come from a certain country or because you dress a certain way ... Copenhagen has a great night life and i'm sure you'll enjoy your stay ... by the way, the legal age for drinking and smoking here is 16 - so you'll be more than fine, lol

Well I have no idea what "emo" is but I just moved from Copenhagen and it was pretty safe there. As a girl I never worried about walking alone at night or anything like that. Like I said I have no idea what dressing "emo" is but people in Copenhagen dress very...well...eccentricly so I doubt much would surprise them.

There has been some violence lately though between immigrants and native Danes. It is rare, I think there is less crime there then in North America, but a guy at my husbands work got stabbed by a guy who walked into him on the street, that was kind of scary.

The thing is though that I would question a 16 year old traveling to any foreign country alone. I went to Europe alone for the first time when I was 17 but I was heading to school so I wasn't there alone. It isn't that Europe is overly dangerous but it there are more dangers when you are young and foreign then there are when you are local. I would really recommend either waiting 2 years or going with a parent.

Also Copenhagen is really expensive and I don't know if there is a lot to do there for some one your age alone. If you have friends that is another story, you will have a blast.

Copenhagen is safe enuf for tourists, very much like ere ( Stockholm Sweden ), plus ppl dont care so much on how u dress.Of course, if u walk around at the wee hours of the night/morning u'll be allowing ureself to vunerable to dangers ( which doesnt happen much ) unless u fall asleep on the sidewalks after a night of drinkin alchohol or knock urself in ur head while drunk. lol Only thing is, pickpockets wud be ur main concern when ure out.Its not the danes doing it..its some other "foreigners".People in copenhagen are rather nice, then again scandivanians are always nice! lol I can say the same bout ppl in Stockholm too. There is a risk everytime u walk outta the house but scandivania wudnt be one of those countries wer u walk down the street & someone wud stab u.Low crime rate.Have fun tho.

btw..whats emo? not sure i've ever heard that "category" of fashion before.

I come from Denmark and even though I haven't been to Copenhagen lots of times, I can tell you it's safe. There might be people yelling at you if you're out late in the weekends. You might even be beaten up if you don't ignore them, but you shouldn't be worried, just take care of yourself and you'll be alright
