it would be an incredibly interesting matchup...i really think winthrop would win because they have a lot of seniors, and duke is very young in contrast...also, teams with good guard play have been able to hurt duke, and winthrop has two very good guards in michael jenkins and torrell martin

In the first round, I think you'd have to give the edge to Winthrop. They dominated their conference and amassed 28 wins. Three of their four losses came against top 15 teams, and they nearly beat Wisconsin! (They lost by 3 points.) The other loss was an 11 point defeat to now ranked Maryland.
But the biggest reason Winthrop will win? They've won 18 straight and Duke has been absolutely struggling. Nothing is more deadly going into the NCAA tourney than a hot team, regardless of their rank.

i think duke is an 8 seed and winthrop is a 12... not a likely matchup... however, i think winthrop could beat duke. i don't know if they would, but i think they could. duke is having an off-year and is freezing cold... but i think coach K is too good to lose in round 1.

hah winthrop. duke is so unbelievably overrated this year; it's tickled me pink to watch them lose game after game.
But yet, they're still rated among the top 25! Incredible. It's like no matter what, the polls always fellate the ACC.
