The compatablility of evolution vs the Muslim version of creation is equal to that of evolution vs Christianity's version of creation.

The acceptablility of evolution depends on the degree of literality which you attribute to the scriptures.

Young Earth Creationists deride evolution because they interpret the Bible or the Koran in a strictly literal sense.

Someone who interprets the creation myths as an allegory are not bound by such either/or logic.

I, for example, am a christian. I also accept evolution. I bnelieve in the bible, and accept it as the Word of God, however I don't interpret all of it as literal. I interpret Genesis allegorically. Paul's admonition to abstain from sexual immorality is literal.

I imagine that it can go the same way for those who believe in the Koran.

The answer is simply no.

In Islam, the Qu'ran is the revealed word of Allah to his prophet Muhammad via the Angel Gabriel. Every single word of it is, to a muslim, the word of God.

Therefore if you are a religious muslim, and you actually accept the most basic tenet of your religion ((1) La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur rasulullah) you have to accept the Qu'ranic account of creation.

According to the Qu'ran (15:26) man was created directly by Allah out of potter's clay of black mud.

You can choose to believe in evolution as a muslim, but by doing so you contravene the most basic tenets of the religion.

Evolution is a fact; the 'theory' is a model of how it happens. Anyone who doesn't accept evolution by now may as well be living in the Dark Ages - when xtianity ruled Europe.

Islam is also a creationist religion and therefore quite backward. How many Nobel prize winners have been Muslim since they began in 1901? Two!
