you reach a mile marker that reads 150 and then you retrace your steps to the 175 mile marker. What is your resultant displacement from the 260 mile marker?

The 260 mile marker is your starting point.After going upto 150,turning back and retracing your steps till 175 mile marker,in effect you are at a distance of 260 - 175 from the starting point only.
So displacement= 260-175 =85 units

It's a little tricky, like most puzzles - but much of the information is just there to confuse you. What's the key question? "What is your .. displacement from the [starting point]", right? Well, when you get to the 175 mile marker, how far are you from where you started (the 260 mile marker)?
