Talk to your mother, who has been through all this

Carry a purse or a bookbag. Keep at least a couple pads or tampons at all times, since you could be surprised by an accident.

Here are some very helpful websites which you should explore. They can help you make a decision on what kind of protection you can use, how to manage your period, and answer many question you have about how your period may affect your life/activities.

Also, your library most likely has some very good books on menstruation. Most importantly, remember this is a momentous occassion in your life. Your body is becomming a woman, and you are maturing in many many ways. You may notice some mood changes and start feeling like you are not in control of your emotions. This is because the hormones in your body are fluctuating and this is normal. You will learn to adjust to all these changes. Speak with your mother about any questions you have, I am sure she would welcome the chance to discuss this with you.

If you are not comfortable with your mom, maybe a friend's mother could help you. Or... the school nurse.

If you got it while at school, go to the nurse and get a pad or use the machines in the girls room.

Then go out with your mom or other female individual and go buy some pads for you.

As for school, put a pad in your pocket. Leave a few in a bag in your locker. When you go to change your pad, stop by your locker quick and get another one, especially if your period is heavy.

Keep some protection in a purse, pencil pouch, or pocket. Try and hurry up inbetween classes to be able to get to the bathroom. Or if you are not too embaressed, tell a teacher and they might be able to let you come in late.

You can always see the nurse to get a pad or tampon, if that's not too embarrassing. If you don't have access to anything, you can use a sock, or just tie a sweater or jacket around your waist.
