to make it simple.

it is his size. he stand at barely 6 feet. which makes him the second shortest QB in the draft right in front of Chris Leak who is 5'11. and on top of that. he put up terrible numbers at the combine. he had a sub par 40 time and this throws werent great.

if he were smart he would start trying to catch ball instead of throwing them and maybe market himself as a WR like marcus robinson did out of PSU last year. i think he might go early second day. but if he goes before that. a team is taking a big risk trying to make something out of a nothing.

Heisman trophy winner or not, Smith is a little short to see over the offensive line. There are always exceptions (Doug Flutie, Drew Brees, and Mike Vick are all under Smith's 6'1") to the rule of height means might. Let me say (on the record) that I absolutely hate the Ohio State Buckeyes and all that they stand for.
That being said, the NFL teams personnel departments sometimes place too much value on the combine. It seems ridiculous to say that even though Smith had amazing statistics as a starting QB in a program as tough as OSU was last year could be devalued so much from throwing 18 passes against no defense in a combine setting.
Troy Smith's value as a QB has gone from being the Heisman trophy winner and top 5 pick to hoping to be in the top 105 picks in the NFL draft.
Don't be surprised when Smith ends up being a starting QB in the NFL and leaves a pretty good record for those combine aficionados to ponder.

Either a lot of people here have no idea about what it takes to be an NFL QB, they are against a black QB or anti OSU. No Troy Smith will never be a Joe Montana or be the first QB taken but he can be a strong NFL QB. One game in a championship does not make your life or Peyton would of been done a few years ago not sitting as the NFL Champ now. The BCS game was a disaster for OSU not because of Troy but because they got out coached and manhandled on both lines. Troy had no chance to throw most times and was always on the run. In the proper system he will shine and they doubts about his arm strength will be laughed at.

There are alot of reasons as everyone has stated. He could still go as early as 34th of 35th overall to Detroit or Cleveland. Dont be surprised if he goes that high. To recap the reasons:
1. Height/Weight
2. Arm Strength Questions
3. Choking Under Pressure Concerns
And one that nobody else mentioned:
4. Heisman trophy winning Quarterbacks are chronic underachievers. With the exception of Carson Palmer you have to agree...this is the list of the last 10 QB Heisman winners:

2004 Matt Leinart Southern California QB
2003 Jason White Oklahoma QB
2002 Carson Palmer Southern California QB
2001 Eric Crouch Nebraska QB
2000 Chris Weinke Florida State QB
1996 Danny Wuerffel Florida QB
1993 Charlie Ward Florida State QB
1992 Gino Torretta Miami QB
1990 Ty Detmer Brigham Young QB
1989 Andre Ware QB

People think he is too short to play in the NFL. That may be true, but I think that is BS for him not being a high pick. Drew Brees is about his height and is obviously doing pretty well. The BCS game also hurt him, but not by that much.
Then again, I am an LSU fan, and so I am not complaining about JaMarcus Russell being considered better than Smith. I just do not think it is fair that people are saying there are at least four or five other QBs better than him (Russell, Quinn, Stanton, Kolb, etc.)

Lacks arm strength, Is short, isnt strong, isnt a typical NFL quaterback, played good cause he plyed in Ohio St who had a good o-line until the national championship game. Neither him or Chris Leak are high draft picks becuase scouts see them as only playing good in a college system. Also there are many talaented QB's ahead of Smith in the draft like Quinn, Russel, Stanton and Edwards.

Troy Smith was an over rated player playing for an over rated conference and an over rated team, I think there were numerous teams out there who could of beaten them namely Hawaii or Boise state, and Colt Brennan was a better more efficient passer that probably should of won the Heisman. One thing for sure, if Brennan played for osu or Florida he defiantly would have won the Heisman, and even without the over rated school will probably win it this season. Troy Smith was nothing more than a Media darling that wont make it in the NFL. And his college stats are only so-so, not great.

Because of the sports media analyst thinking they know it all. They say he is too short to be successful at the position they said the same thing about Vick and he has turned out alright. They have something to say negative pretty much about every college player entering the NFL when really they don't know at all. It all comes down to if they want it or not I think he'll turn out to be a quarterback if they don't convert over to another position.

Suspect arm strength and accuracy. Speed becomes an issue because he is fast, but was tentative to run last year. He wasn't a high pick before the UF game(only assumed), but it only hurt when he couldn't make a play all game.

Because he has the aura of Tommy Frazier & Eric Crouch. Both from Nebraska, one of them a Heisman winner, Crouch drafted as a wide receiver then retires from NFL cause he wants to QB but lacks arm strength, both were considered too short to QB in the NFL, need i go on?
