Has anybody ever made this drive or similar? and When is the best time to drive cross country to Los Angeles? Obviously I want to avoid the stormy weather found while driving, as well as the tornadoes across the Central States etc.
I will appreciate it. Tks.

Contact AAA for a trip ticket ( yes there is a membership fee) It will give you page by page, turn by turn directions. Will even tell you which roads are under construction and which detours to take. As far as stormy weather, you can not predict mother nature, there could be a late spring snow storm anywhere along the route unless you go way south and out of the way! Tornado season usually does not start until summer, but the weather has not been usual lately, so no rule of thumb there either
We drove from NY to Colorado a few times, be prepared for a long , tedious drive, especially if you are going across Nebraska and Iowa Depending on the route, stop in those states while you can as rest areas are few.

Would contact AAA (American Automobile Association). I have heard that they can provide a number of things re travel, routes, et cetera. Good luck.

I'd opt for Continental Airlines...LAX to Newark direct.
